political animals

Norman Baker MP (left) at an Uncaged Campaigns petition
hand-in at 10 Downing Street.
Uncaged Campaigns are active at all levels in our struggle against
vivisection. We've identified four interlinked campaign arenas:
| 1. |
The PERSONAL arena
Encouraging cruelty-free ways of life and active participation. |
| 2. |
The CULTURAL arena
Art, science, media and other forms of communication and
interaction can nurture a culture of respect, or a culture of indifference
and cruelty. |
| 3. |
The ECONOMIC arena
Economics - who produces what and the technologies employed
- has a fundamental effect on animals, people and the environment. |
| 4. |
The POLITICAL arena
Where the other three arenas converge - this is where the
power struggle resolves itself and sets the framework - through the
making of law and the power of law enforcement - for what happens
on the ground. |
This brand new section of the Uncaged Campaigns website aims to explore
the political arena, the heart of our society's decision-making process.
This is where the fate of animals, people and the environment is finally
decided. We're aiming to stimulate debate among committed animal activists,
and reveal to the public at large the undemocratic and unfair political
behaviour that gives animals, in particular, a raw deal.
"Uncaged keeps alive the flame of hope that one day, animal
experiments will seem as outdated as today sending children up chimneys
seems." Norman Baker MP, Liberal Democrat spokesperson
on animal welfare
Here's a selection of articles that explore the political arena:
| 1. |
Proportional representation for
animals
The hallmark of a democratic society is that those affected by political
decisions can participate in the decision-making process. But our
current system in Britain fails to take account of widespread public
concern for animal welfare, never mind giving animals a direct voice.

Diaries of Despair - the need for
an independent judicial inquiry
This briefing is the most thorough case study of the reality of vivisection
in modern Britain, despite a temporary injunction banning publication
of important evidence. It reveals extreme cruelty promoted by a dishonest
and callous Government machine... |

Battle against Cambridge primate lab
backed by Blair
A proposal by Cambridge University to build a new laboratory to perform
horrific and crude brain experiments on primates has been backed by
Blair and billionaire biotech entrepreneur Lord Sainsbury, Blair's
Science Minister. The lab was exposed by a disturbing undercover investigation.
Read on to find out why this scandalous proposal is a crunch battle... |
