Hurtful Essences Campaign Hits East Anglia

Last week we had more success as we took the campaign to East Anglia's major towns - Norwich and Ipswich.

Norwich - Cllr Adrian Ramsay joins Uncaged founder Angela Roberts to publicise Boycott Herbal Essences campaign.

On Tuesday 22 July we were stationed on Brigg Street in the busy heart of Norwich's historic City Centre. Several hundred more people pledged to join the Boycott of Herbal Essences.

We were also supported by Cllr Adrian Ramsay, leader of the large Green Party group on the City Council. Check out the photo album or visit Adrian's blog to find out more. I also did an interview about the campaign with Radio Norwich.

After a hard but rewarding day in Norwich, we travelled down the A140 to campaign in Ipswich on Wednesday 23 July. I'd already given some pre-recorded interviews for several Ipswich radio stations while in Norwich, but there was more intense media interest as we held the campaign on the Cornhill in the middle of Ipswich's main shopping precinct. I had a live chat with Ipswich Community Radio (ICR) during their breakfast programme, and Town 102.5 FM came out to chat with us as we campaigned.

We've had loads of positive feedback, but one of the most interesting things we heard about was that a hairdressers in town had turned the radio up when our campaign came on, causing huge consternation and interest among the punters and staff.

During the day, ICR came out and did a more in-depth interview with me about the campaign. The journalist was fascinated to discover the truth about animal testing for Herbal Essences - the systematic, merciless cruelty involved. While most people have a vague idea that animal testing occurs, there's a real lack of awareness about what actually happens - quite literally 'the devil in the detail'.

We'd like to extend our warmest thanks and gratitude to all the volunteers who came out to help us in Norwich and Ipswich - they worked fantastically hard and made a real difference to the events.

Finally, we were joined by a fabulous new character in Ipswich - Reggie the Rat. Reggie has escaped from a lab and is on a mission to save his friends and family from Herbal Essences' cruelty. Take it away Reggie ... (click on the play button)
