Campaigning in SheffieldUNCAGED HOUNDS THE HUNTERS

This afternoon (Wednesday 11th August), Uncaged have staged a counter-demonstration against a Countryside Alliance propaganda event in Sheffield City Centre.

The hunters had even brought their dogs into the middle of town to lure in interest, a shameless ploy given that hounds are killed once they are deemed surplus to requirements by the hunt.

Holding banners proclaiming "Ban hunting now" and "Recognise the rights of animals", Uncaged confronted bloodsports enthusiasts and their attempts to mislead the public about the cruel reality of hunting. Regional TV and radio rushed to cover our protests, ensuring that the hunters' lies were exposed to hundreds of thousands of people.

Uncaged caught The Countryside Alliance red-handed repeating the claim that 59% of the public 'say keep hunting', despite the figure being condemned as "misleading" by the Advertising Standards Authority. The Countryside Alliance have defied an order not to repeat the claim, and may now face action from the Government's Office of Fair Trading.

Uncaged held their ground until the Countryside Alliance event packed up and left town. A number of these desperate efforts are being held across the country this week in what's called "Countryside to Town". Look out for them in your local town centre. The Countryside Alliance website helpfully provides an email and phone number to contact for you to check if there's one happening near you.
