URGENT ACTION ALERT!
DIARIES OF DESPAIR UPDATE
On Sunday 20th April 2003, Uncaged Campaigns' two and a half
year legal fight for the public's democratic right to know what was really
happening in Government-backed pig-to-primate transplant experiments at
Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS) began to reap rewards with a large story
on page three of the Observer.
Furthermore, the documents we are now allowed to publish reveal the scandalous
conduct of the Government in the way it licensed some of the most extreme
and bloody experiments ever seen in the UK and then amazingly allowed
serious breaches of the law to go unpunished. The myth of 'tightly regulated
animal experiments' has now been blown out of water.
We now need your help! Please visit our dedicated website at www.xenodiaries.org
for our full report on this most shocking scandal; the leaked (and previously
injuncted) documents; and ways in which you can help us hold the Government
(some of these licenses were even personally authorised by ministers),
Imutran/Novartis and HLS to account.
We need you to write, email and phone as many national print (include
magazines etc.), television, radio and online media as you can. It is
absolutely imperative that we increase the coverage of this scandal as
wide as possible. Our victory in overturning the injunction on the leaked
documents is monumental in the debate about all animal experiments, HLS,
Government regulation and xenotransplantation - but people need to hear
it!
Please contact the media and highlight the extreme - and previously hidden
- suffering of wild-caught primates in these experiments and that the
corruption and collusion on the part of the Government in licensing and
'regulating' these experiments demands an Independent Judicial Inquiry
into its behaviour - NOW!
Please give our website address: www.xenodiaries.org
and our contact details for journalists to get in touch (0114 272 2220;
info@uncaged.co.uk). Also, refer
to the Observer
article.
Please also contact the Observer to thank them for being bold enough
for covering this story.
The website at www.xenodiaries.org/letters.htm
has more information (including some addresses and sample letters) about
writing to the media, the Prime Minister, your MP etc. See also our latest
news release that you may wish to utilise or refer to when contacting
the media.
