9th International Animal Rights Day (IARD)

UNCAGED INSPIRES GLOBAL ACTION FOR ANIMAL RIGHTS

The 9th annual International Animal Rights Day - organised by Uncaged - was a huge success, with more actions (100) taking place in the UK and across the world than ever before.

A huge march in Sao Paulo Brazil to mark International Animal Rights Day 2006.

Thousands of activists in almost every corner of the world united to call for animals' rights and emphasise the unbreakable link between human and animal rights. From Russia to Rio de Janeiro, from London to Lagos, and from Turin to Tasmania animal advocates united in a growing declaration of compassion, justice and civilisation - the Universal Declaration of Animal Rights.

There were 50 events in UK towns and cities. In Dublin, the Animal Rights Action Network (ARAN) organised a rally and march of over 200 people - the largest event for animals ever seen in the Republic of Ireland! It attracted widespread and excellent media coverage and Uncaged Campaigns Director, Dan Lyons, spoke at the event. Meanwhile, International Campaigns co-ordinated over 20 events across in France, Switzerland and Luxembourg. There were also actions in 5 Italian cities and more in Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Russia and Nigeria.

In South Africa there were events in Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg and Bloemfontein. Brazil saw protests in the cities of Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Sao Carlos, Sao Paulo and 6 other cities. There were also events in Argentina, Chile - postponed a week due to riots after death of Gen. Pinochet), Jamaica, Canada (Montreal, Halifax), the USA (New Jersey, California and Indiana), and Australia.

The above non-UK links will take you in-depth reports and photo galleries, or the organising group's homepage.

Please see click here for a selection of these, and pictures from UK actions. You can comment on any of the photos, which is a great opportunity to express solidarity with other animal rights activists across the world, make new friends, and so build a stronger movement.
