How you can help to stop the suffering

BOYCOTT IAMS

  • Boycott IAMS/Eukanuba and other Procter & Gamble products. For more information on the annual Global Boycott P&G Day click here.

BUY CRUELTY-FREE PET FOOD

  • Buy pet foods produced without suffering and killing. Consider vegetarian and/or organic foods. See our information sheet discussing other pet foods or send for a copy of the Compassionate Shopping Guide.

  • The Compassionate Shopping Guide is an 80 page guide to cruelty-free companies, shops and supermarkets. To send for your copy, make a donation of £5 or more.

LOBBY ORGANISATIONS

  • The RSPCA have confirmed to us that they have severed all fund-raising links with IAMS & Eukanuba, but they are reluctant to make a public statement. Please contact the RSPCA to urge them to clarify their position. Address: Patrick Chapman, Head of Fundraising, The Manor House, The Causeway, Horsham West Sussex, RH12 1HG. Tel: 01403 264181. email: enqserv@rspca.org.uk.
  • The Kennel Club - organisers of the world famous Crufts dog show - have been shown all the evidence about IAMS' cruel animal research in detail. However, not only does the Kennel Club accept IAMS as a major sponsor - thereby promoting this callous company to thousands of 'dog enthusiasts' - but it also defends IAMS' cruel practices and misleads people by repeating IAMS' deceptive research Policy Statements. The Kennel Club have even made statements about these experiments that are so untrue even IAMS won't make them! (eg. that all IAMS' research was 10 years ago!!). The Kennel Club claims to be an organisation that cares for the well-being of dogs ("The primary object of the Kennel Club is to promote, in every way, the general improvement of dogs" it states) - just not the ones in IAMS' 'pet' food research, especially when there is a huge sponsorship cheque on offer!

Please contact the Kennel Club to urge them to resist the lure of IAMS' considerable sponsorship deals and take a principled stance against cruelty. Phil Buckley, External Affairs Manager, The Kennel Club, 1-5 Clarges Street, Piccadilly, London W1J 8AB. Tel 020 7518 1020. email: pbuckley@the-kennel-club.org.uk.

  • IAMS marketing has even infiltrated Guide Dogs for the Blind! Please write to Fraser Alexander, Guide Dogs for the Blind Association, Hillfields, Burghfield Common, Reading RG7 3YG, tel: 0118 983 8379, fax: 0118 983 1302, www.guidedogs.org.uk. Ask them to stop using and promoting a pet food made by a company that has abused Labrador puppies (see section (vi) of full report).
  • Contact animal magazines (e.g. Dog World, Dogs Today, Your Cat, Your Dog - some addresses here) expressing your outrage at IAMS' cruel testing. IAMS' massive advertising budget is another obstacle here. Magazines who receive large advertising revenue from IAMS are often reluctant to criticise them - which is a bit cowardly really.
  • Contact supermarkets to complain about their promotion and selling of IAMS' cruel pet foods. The bottom line is: selling IAMS = selling cruelty. Sainsbury's Pet Club has even been actively promoting the sale of IAMS & Eukanuba! Threaten to boycott supermarkets who are too greedy and unprincipled to stop selling IAMS. Stage demos and actions in or around supermarkets to educate the public about IAMS.
  • Speak to your local pet food supplier or retailer about IAMS cruelty. Many have already pledged not to sell IAMS or Eukanuba ever again!
  • If you know of a local animal sanctuary, kennels or cattery, contact them to urge them to dump IAMS/Eukanuba. We can supply leaflets to these places so that the public can become informed.
  • Vets are also used as IAMS & Eukanuba pushers. Ask your vet to shun this cruel company.
  • There may be other animal organisations or businesses (e.g. National Canine Defence League, Cats Protection League) that you have knowledge of or contact with. Ask them if they sell, use or promote IAMS, and urge them to dump IAMS if they do.

SUPPORT UNCAGED
